Résumé
Les différentes initiatives internationales partagent des options qui traduisent une double préoccupation commune: la nécessité de développer une recherche interdisciplinaire et le transfert des données de la recherche vers les actions terrain. Le National Institute of Health (NIH) a mobilisé l’ensemble de ses instituts de manière concertée. La particularité du plan américain par rapport aux initiatives européennes tient: 1) au degré d’investissement — pour les États-Unis l’obésité n’est pas un domaine secondaire, c’est une priorité majeure; 2) à la préoccupation d’une recherche interdisciplinaire incluant les sciences humaines et sociales (économie, environnement, comportement, communication et santé publique), tout en misant fortement sur les sciences « dures »; 3) à l’engagement dans des partenariats incluant les associations et l’industrie agro-alimentaire; 4) à la place de la recherche sur la prévention dans ces plans stratégiques.

Abstract
The existing international initiatives share alternatives reflecting a common concern that is two-fold: the need to establish interdisciplinary research and transfer resulting data to on-the-ground initiatives. The National Institute of Health (NIH) in the US has mobilized all its institutes in a coordinated fashion. There are a number of emphases that distinguish the American approach from European initiatives: 1) the level of investment — in the US, obesity is a major priority rather than a secondary concern; 2) the focus on interdisciplinary research that integrates the humanities and social sciences (economics, environment, human behaviour, communication and public health), while placing strong emphasis on the hard sciences; 3) the commitment to maintaining partnerships, including those with various organisations and the agribusiness sector; 4) the priority given to research on prevention as part of strategic plans.
