EUROMAT 2017 Symposia on Processing
C5 “Interface Design and Modelling, Wetting and High-Temperature Capillarity,” organized by S. Agathopoulos and F. Valenza
C6 “Joining,” organized by I. Kaban and C. Sommitsch
C7 “Steel Making,” organized by J. Schenk and S. Papaefthymiou
C8 “Solidification, Casting, Foundry and Liquid Metal Processing,” organized by A. Karantzalis and A. Kennedy
Symposium C5 focused on research in the fields of surfaces and interfaces, wetting and capillarity in materials, and materials processing.
Joining techniques such as brazing and diffusion bonding, electron beam welding, resistance spot welding, electromagnetic pulse technology welding, and riveting were the scope of Symposium C6. Recent experimental and theoretical studies on the characterization and modeling of the joining processes and obtained joints were presented and discussed.
The latest scientific and technological advances in solidification, casting, and industrial practice optimization, and development for currently produced cast aluminum alloys and steels, along with other special-purpose alloy systems, were part of the discussions held at Symposia C7 and C8.
We would like to thank all participants for their presentations at the symposia as well as the authors for their written contributions to this issue. We acknowledge the reviewers for their careful reading and evaluation of the manuscripts and their valuable suggestions to improve the quality of the papers.
We are very grateful to the editor-in-chief of JMEP, Dr. Rajiv Asthana, senior content developer, Mary Anne Fleming, and the journal staff, Kate Doman, Diane Whitelaw, and Beverly Musgrove, for giving us an opportunity to publish the symposia contributions in this issue and for their professional and friendly support during the entire reviewing and publication process.
