This Special Issue of Experimental Mechanics is published in honor of Professor Guruswami (Ravi) Ravichandran, in recognition of his seminal contributions to the field of experimental solid mechanics.
Professor Ravichandran has pioneered the development of novel experimental and analytical approaches for characterizing the behavior of materials across multiple length (meters to nanometers) and time scales (nanoseconds to weeks), resulting in fundamental understanding of the deformation and fracture of solids. His formative contributions have enabled investigations of deformation, damage, and failure mechanisms in a broad variety of solid materials under a range of thermo-mechanical and multi-axial loading conditions. Our aim in organizing this special issue is to highlight the breadth and depth of the cutting-edge experimental mechanics that Professor Ravichandran has impacted over his many years of service to the field and community.
