This volume is edited by three academicians from prominent universities in the USA: Angela M. Eikenberry is the David C. Scott Diamond Alumni Professor of Public Affairs in the School of Public Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha; Roseanne Mirabella is a professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Affairs and the Executive Director of the center for community research and engagement at Seton Hall University; and finally, Billie Sandberg is an Assistant Professor of Public Administration and the Director of the Nonprofit Institute in the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University.

The main aim of the book is to provide critical perspectives on topics in nonprofit and voluntary organization management that are not covered in textbooks but that are relevant to people working in the field, especially since these perspectives will help them become better leaders in the field and more engaged in society.
