Bucephaline digeneans (Bucephalidae) in Sphyraena putnamae Jordan & Seale (Sphyraenidae) from the lagoon off New Caledonia

Abstract

Three species of bucephaline bucephalids are described from Sphyraena putnamae Jordan & Seale and distinguished from related forms using visual keys. Rhipidocotyle khalili Nagaty, 1937 is illustrated and measurements given. Rhipidocotyle bartolii n. sp. [syns R. longicirrus (Nagaty, 1937) of Bartoli & Bray (2005); and possibly Bucephalopsis arcuatus (Linton, 1900) of Manter (1940)] differs from R. longicirrus (sensu stricto) in width, pre-uterine distance, pre-oral distance and cirrus-sac extent. Prosorhynchoides toomboensis n. sp. differs from similar species by combinations of characters presented in a table. The bucephalids of Sphyraena spp. are listed and discussed.

Résumé

Trois espèces de Bucephalidae Bucephalinae sont décrites de Sphyraena putnamae Jordan & Seale et distinguées de formes proches en utilisant une clé visuelle. Rhipidocotyle khalili Nagaty, 1937 est illustré et des mesures sont fournies. Rhipidocotyle bartolii n. sp. [synonyme R. longicirrus (Nagaty, 1937) de Bartoli & Bray (2005); et synonyme possible Bucephalopsis arcuatus (Linton, 1900) de Manter (1940)] diffère de R. longicirrus (sensu stricto) en largeur, distance pré-utérine, distance anté-orale et distance entre l’extrémité antérieure du sac du cirre et l’extrémité postérieure du corps. Prosorhynchoides toomboensis n. sp. diffère des espèces similaires par des combinaisons de caractères présentées dans un tableau. Une liste des Bucephalidae des Sphyraena spp. est discutée.
