My copy of Honoring Richard Ruiz and his Work on Language Planning and Bilingual Education includes a note to me, once and forever Richard’s doctoral advisee, from his surviving wife, Marie. Carefully taped to its title page, her words remind, ‘This book is a source of joy and sadness as it conveys Richard’s impact on those he taught, mentored and his far-reaching scope of influence around the world. My sadness is only due to the fact that he was not here to see it. He would be most proud of this volume and the words from each supporting writer crafted so well in telling their stories of Richard in relation to his previously published work.’
