Biomedical knowledge acquisition and information processing systems can be considered as main research fields on biomedical informatics field. Biomedical knowledge acquisition has motivated the necessity of extracting, storing and processing the knowledge of different specialists in medicine, promoting the emergence of new techniques which should be adapted to the constant bioinformatics evolution. Information processing systems is necessary to enable the acquisition of biomedical knowledge given the vast amount of information which is generated by new medical equipment, taking into account the nature of task environment in which the processes can be carried out.

This supplement issue of Journal of Medical Systems (JOMS) on New Trends on Biomedical Knowledge Acquisition and Information Processing Systems contains two kinds of contributions: Regular research papers, and work in progress papers.

This supplement issue has been edited according to the norms and guidelines of JOMS. Several...
