Supervision to enhance educational and vocational guidance practice: A review

Abstract

Supervision to support the work of career practitioners is evident in many countries, but is not universal. This author presents a literature review, intending to emphasise the prime importance of developing supervision for guidance work. The author also considers the issues facing those training to develop the role of supervisors in southeast England. It is hoped the issues discussed will be pertinent for educational and vocational guidance services in other countries where supervision is a marginal or developing activity.

Résumé

La supervision pour améliorer la pratique du conseil en orientation scolaire et professionnelle: une revue. La supervision comme soutien au travail des praticiens en orientation est évidente dans un grand nombre de pays mais cette vision n’est pas universelle. Cet auteur présente une revue de littérature destinée à souligner l’importance primordiale du développement de la pratique de supervision pour le travail de conseil. L’auteur considère également les problèmes qui se posent à ceux qui tentent de développer le rôle des superviseurs dans le sud-est de l’Angleterre. On espère que les questions discutées seront pertinentes pour les services d’orientation scolaire et professionnelle dans d’autres pays où la supervision est une activité marginale ou en développement.

Zusammenfassung

Supervision zur Verbesserung der Praxis in der Bildungs- und Berufsberatung: Ein Überblick. Supervision zur Unterstützung der Arbeit von Praktikern in der Berufs- und Laufbahnberatung ist in vielen Ländern vorhanden, ist aber nicht universell. Die Autorin präsentiert einen Literaturüberblick mit der Absicht, die grosse Wichtigkeit der Entwicklung von Supervision für die Beratungstätigkeit zu betonen. Die Autorin berücksichtig auch die Probleme, mit welchen Personen beim Training zur Entwicklung der Rolle des Supervisors/der Supervisorin in Südost England konfrontiert sind. Es wird erhofft, dass die diskutierten Themen für Dienstleistungen in der Bildungs- und Berufsberatung in anderen Ländern relevant sind, in denen Supervison eine marginale oder sich entwickelnde Aktivität ist.

La supervisión para la mejora de la práctica de la orientación educativa y vocacional: una revisión. La necesidad de la supervisión para apoyar el trabajo de los orientadores es evidente en muchos países, pero no es universal. Este autor presenta una revisión de la literatura, con el propósito de hacer énfasis en la importancia primordial de desarrollar la supervisión en el trabajo de orientación. Este autor también considera los aspectos con los que se enfrentan aquellos profesionales que se están formando para desempeñar un rol de supervisores en el sureste de Inglaterra. Se espera que las cuestiones planteadas sean relevantes para los servicios de orientación educativa y vocacional de otros países donde la supervisión es una actividad marginal o en desarrollo incipiente.
