Practice Theory and Education: Diffractive readings in professional practice examines the complex and multifaceted notion of ‘practice’ from multiple angles and compellingly engages in fundamental questions of theory of practice in relation to education and professional practice, drawing on diverse influential theories such as the works of Bourdieu, de Certeau, Deleuze and Guattari, Dewey, Latour, Marx and Vygotsky. The notions interrogated include the bi-directional relationship between theory and practice; the evolution of the concept of practice over time; human and non-human agency in shaping practice—including the agency of social imaginaries—and of practice in shaping the habitus; the embedded human subjectivity in practice; and the research of practice, both, theoretically and empirically.
