The concept of “environmental interface” was the keypoint of the book “Fluid Mechanics of Environmental Interfaces”, edited by Dragutin T. Mihailović and myself first in 2008 [2] and which, then, had a 2nd, extended and updated edition in 2012 [4]. In that book, an environmental interface was defined as “a surface between two either abiotic or biotic systems that may be in relative motion and exchange energy, mass, momentum and information through biophysical and/or chemical processes, fluctuating temporally and spatially regardless of the space and time scale”. While our book was limited to the Fluid Mechanics of the environmental interfaces, the new book “Time and Methods in Environmental Interfaces Modelling: Personal Insights”, authored by Dragutin T. Mihailović, Igor Balaž and Darko Kapor, is returning to that concept but fitting it into the broader field of environmental sciences and modelling [3].
