Analysis of Essential Oils from Alpinia napoensis

Alpinia napoensis H. Dong & G. J. Xu is a purple spotted pseudostem plant that grows up to 1.5–2 m. The glabrous leaf blade is oblong or elliptic lanceolate. The racemes are erect and 13–27 cm long, while the bracteoles are brownish when dry. The ovate labellum is bright red with yellow or white margin and yellow apex with a few red stripes. Flowering occurs in April while fruiting takes place in September [1]. The plant is used in ethnomedicine for the treatment of inflammation, sores, and stomach related ailments [2]. However, no biological activity has been reported from the extract of the plant in the literature. Diarylheptanoids and flavanones were the phytochemical compounds isolated from A. napoensis [2].

To the present, the authors are not aware of any literature data on the volatile composition of A. napoensis. The aim of the present study was to report the chemical compounds identified in the essential oil obtained from the leaves, stems, and roots of A. napoensisgrown in...
