Saussurea involucrata (Kar. et Kir.) Sch.-Bip., belonging to the Asteraceae family, or more commonly known as the snow lotus, is a rare traditional Chinese medicinal herb on the verge of extinction and has been listed as a second-grade national protected wild plant in China .
