Review of The Cordial Economy: Ethics, Recognition and Reciprocity by Patrici Calvo
What kind of economic mentality do we come from? What behaviors form the basis for such a mentality? Towards what kind of economic mentality is humankind heading? These are some of the initial questions asked by Patrici Calvo (PhD) in The Cordial Economy—Ethics, Recognition and Reciprocity, a fresh, contemporary, interdisciplinary work that studies the parameters of human economic behavior concerned mainly with the processes of ethical relationships between human beings and decision-making.
The traditional technical–scientific and economists’ approaches have tried to conceive of human rationality as free of values and apparently neutral. The development of classical economics to the present day has particularly adopted the system of revealed preference, the mathematization of reality, and the conception of the human being as a profit maximizer or homo oeconomicus (Conill 2004, pp. 141–198).
