A new orbit for the binary star Tau Ophiuchi
- 39 Downloads
The primary of the binary star Tau Ophiuchi is itself a spectroscopic binary. A visual orbit is calculated for the primary and the secondary by use of 635 observations made between 1835 and 2017. Also calculated is an orbit for the spectroscopic primary by use of 29 radial velocities made between 1900 and 1989. Both orbits seem to be satisfactory as measured by statistical tests and comprise more observations and radial velocities than previously calculated orbits.

I wish to thank the double star group at the U.S. Naval Observatory for providing me with the optical observations of Tau Ophiuchi from the WDS and the referee for the last two observations, not in the WDS database.
