Abstract
Paraheminodus kochiensis Kamohara, 1957 (family Peristediidae), has been regarded by most workers as a junior synonym of P. murrayi (GÜnther, 1880), but sufficient argument for combining the two species has not been made. A detailed comparison of the type and non-type material of P. kochiensis and P. murrayi revealed no significant differences between the two; thus, their synonymy is hereby confirmed. Paraheminodus murrayi and P. laticephalus (Kamohara, 1952) are clearly distinguished by the morphology of the upper jaw teeth, length of the upper jaw, and by the number of barbels.
