  1. Laser Display and Lighting Conference (LDC2018), Yokohama, Japan

This section is the special issue for the 7th LASER DISPLAY and LIGHTING CONFERENCE (LDC2018) held at Pacifico Yokohama, Yokohama, Japan, on April 24–27, 2018 to share information on laser display/lighting and related technologies. The section contains some of the papers contributed to LDC2018. These papers were reviewed and accepted according to the editorial policy of Optical Review.

Laser display and lighting are cutting-edge technologies, drawing attention from entertainment, education and business sectors for use in signage, cinema, and television. Laser illumination has already been installed into automobile lighting, store lighting, and event illumination. This special issue covers the wide range of the element technologies: red-, green- and blue-light sources, modulators, speckle controllers, and color management. Much efforts are paid for deep and detailed discussion on emerging technologies in this special issue.

LDC2018 was co-sponsored by The Optical Society of Japan (OSJ) and The Japan Society of Applied Physics and organized by The Laser Display Technology (LDT) Group of the Optical Society of Japan, JSAP. The LDC committee would like to express its sincere appreciation to Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE), The Optical Society (OSA), The Laser Society of Japan (LSJ), The Optoelectronic Industry and Technology Development Association Japan (OITDA), The Japan Optoelectro-Mechanics Association (JOEM), The Chemical Society of Japan, The Society of Polymer Science, Japan, and The Imaging Society of Japan for their cooperation and technical co-sponsorship to LDC2018.

The challenge has been successful, followed by the 8th Laser Display Conference (LDC2019) to be held in Yokohama, on April 23–26, 2019. Finally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all who contributed to LDC2018, and the Editor’s thank goes to honest reviewers for their fair judgments.
