Key challenges in internal quality control: Eurachem training course and workshop held in Berlin

On 10–11 October 2012, the Eurachem Education and Training Working Group organised the first Eurachem international workshop on internal quality control. The event was hosted by the German Member of Eurachem, Eurolab, Germany, at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM, Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und –prüfung), Berlin. The workshop covered the application and implementation of quality control (QC) in routine and research laboratories across a range of sectors and disciplines, including chemical analysis, laboratory medicine, forensic DNA analysis and microbiology. The programme included invited lectures, short communications, breakout and poster sessions and provided an excellent opportunity to discuss challenges associated with implementing effective QC and to share good practice.

The workshop was attended by 70 delegates representing 28 countries and a range of organisations, illustrating the importance of QC across all measurement disciplines. The main...
