Abstract
High pressure grinding rolls are covered with various hardfacings to protect the grinding rolls from wear. Information about stress distributions within the loaded wear protection layers are essential in order to design an optimisation of a wear-resistant layer build-up. In this work, finite element simulations have been used to determine stress distributions of loaded HPGR roller systems. Properties of the wear protection layer were applied, according to the measurements of mechanical properties of the real layer structure, on a HPGR by nanoindentation line-scans. The results show that the contact area of the milled material as well as the defect-free application of wear protection systems are more crucial to the local stress distributions or maxima than to material properties of the layer system.
