It is a privilege and a pleasure for me to contribute this Foreword to the Special Issue of Colloid and Polymer Science which, on the occasion of his 65th birthday, honours Professor Friedrich Kremer for his outstanding contributions to the development of the journal and to fundamental knowledge in the fields of polymer materials science, ferroelectrics and biophysical sciences, achieved using sophisticated physical techniques.
He is perhaps best known for his developments of modern Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy (BDS) and its many applications, especially those concerned with dielectric relaxation of polymeric materials and their molecular dynamics. As we shall see, his recent researches have extended into areas well-beyond that very large field of study.
In the following, I summarise very briefly his eminent scientific career thus far, giving sufficient technical detail in order that the nature, depth and breadth of his achievements may be fully appreciated.
