One of the most pleasant jobs of an Editor is writing about long, fruitful and thoroughly enjoyable work with a fellow editor, and this special issue of Experiments in Fluids, dedicated to the contributions of Prof. Donald Rockwell during his period as Co-Editor-in-Chief, gives the present and past editorial staff and publisher the opportunity to do just this.

Donald Rockwell joined the Editorial Board as a fourth editor in 1995. The continuing growth of the Journal, from 212 pp per year in 1983 to 864 pp in 1994, had called for an expansion of the Board, and it appeared desirable to have a second editor in North America from where almost half of the contributed manuscripts originated. In an editorial of 1995 Jim Whitelaw, when introducing Don as a new editor, stated that he “had brought enthusiasm, new ideas, and knowledge”. Don’s contributions were certainly an important stimulus for the further growth of the Journal and for the steadily increasing acceptance of Experiments in Fluids...
