Abstract.

Y-branching was observed by scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) in single wall carbon nanotubes grown by thermal decomposition of C60 fullerene in the presence of transition metals. These novel carbon nanostructures may play an important role in carbon-based nanoelectronics.
