Focus on bioanalysis

The success of and the interest in the last ABC special issue on bioanalysis in 2003 convinced the Editorial Board of Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry to schedule another special issue on this field. For this reason, the scientific community was invited by the guest editors of this special issue to submit reviews and original papers on developments in bioanalysis.

The broad spectrum of bioanalytical applications has also been covered in part by other special issues, and so in this issue many of the papers focus on biosensors and microarray applications. In recent years, various fields of bioanalysis have shown great interest in these techniques, in addition to classical bioanalytical methods such as hyphenated techniques, various applications of chromatography or mass spectrometry using spectroscopic methods such as Raman or IR for the characterization of reaction products or interaction processes.
