Functions of Bounded Variation¶and Rearrangements

Abstract

The action of the symmetric rearrangement of functions of bounded variation is investigated. In particular, pointwise regularizing effects are established. Pólya-Szegő type inequalities, with a characterization of equality cases, are also proved.
