Conventional management tools are restricted in their application. This paper details the use of Petri nets (PNs) in project management. In this context, the benefits of PNs are indicated. Extensions to PNs are proposed to suit this area of application. The use of a P-matrix for token movements is proposed. A resource levelling algorithm is described and applied to a case study.
