Witnessed pulmonary vein arrest—endoscopically observed conversion of atrial fibrillation into sinus rhythm by laser balloon ablation

Abstract

The endoscopic laser balloon ablation system affords a unique view of the beating heart for visual guidance in pulmonary vein (PV) isolation. A 66-year-old patient was admitted for catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF). While encircling the left superior PV, AF terminated into sinus rhythm, which was diagnosed by observing sudden regularization of previously rapidly fibrillating atrial tissue demonstrating the unique endoscopic video function.

Zusammenfassung

Das endoskopische Laserballonablationssystem erlaubt einen einzigartigen Blick in das schlagende Herz zur visuellen Steuerung der Abgabe von Laserenergie zur Pulmonalvenen(PV)-Isolation. Eine 66-jährige Patientin wurde zur Katheterablation von paroxysmalem Vorhofflimmern (VHF) aufgenommen. Unter Laserenergieablation an der linken oberen PV schlug das VHF in einen Sinusrhythmus um. Die endoskopische Videofunktion konnte diese Terminierung des VHF eindrucksvoll dokumentieren.
