Politiques favorisant l’activité physique dans les écoles

Résumé

Les taux d’obésité et de maladies chroniques connexes chez les enfants et les jeunes augmentent à l’échelle mondiale, en partie en raison de niveaux inadéquats d’activité physique. Il convient de modifier l’environnement dans de nombreux milieux afin d’encourager l’adoption de comportements sains à un jeune âge. Les écoles constituent un milieu idéal où intégrer diverses interventions afin d’améliorer les niveaux d’activité physique des élèves et de créer des environnements favorisant une saine alimentation. Dans le présent document, on examine des politiques efficaces et prometteuses permettant d’accroître les niveaux d’activité physique dans le milieu scolaire et on présente d’autres interventions inéprouvées qui pourraient jeter les bases d’études ultérieures. Les politiques énoncées dans le présent document devraient être prises en considération par divers intervenants et faire l’objet d’une évaluation rigoureuse. Ces politiques devraient aborder l’éducation physique et l’activité physique quotidiennes sécuritaires et de qualité, l’activité physique parascolaire, la formation d’intervenants en activité physique, le transport actif entre la maison et l’école, les installations adéquates et les partenariats avec les municipalités. On devrait également reconnaître formellement la contribution des initiatives scolaires efficaces et des partenaires.
