Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to point out the possibility of operating cost reductions of $2–$3 per ton of steel when hot metal having suitable phosphorus levels is available and when the product requirements will permit its use in an acid L-D Process. It is not the intention to advocate an acid L-D Process for any wide variety of situations, however, but merely to alert planners to its potentialities and limitations.
