Summary

Owing to abundant resources of RE, Chinese metallurgists direct much attention to applications of RE in steelmaking. Recently, RE treatment has been replaced by Ca injection technology in some countries. This paper compares the effects of RE and Ca and reviews recent improvements in REM addition practice. It also examines the microalloying effect of RE, as well as the role of RE in thermoplasticity and oxidation resistance.
