Abstract
Higher engine output and the increasing need for components to provide comfort functions in the vehicle lead to a growing divergence between the cooling requirements and coolant flow availability for secondary engine components. This article shows how structured and efficient development is possible with the aid of a one-dimensional coolant flow calculation of the total cooling circuit plus the application of Design of Experiments techniques (DoE). The work was undertaken by Ingenieurgesellschaft für Fahrzeugtechnik (IFT) in co-operation with the FH Aalen.
