Abstract

A new species of hippolytid shrimp,Lysmata splendida, from the Maldives (Ari-Atoll) is described. This species can be separated from its closest relative,L. debeliusBruce, 1981, by the acute pterygostomial, angles of the carapace, the lower spine number on the merus of pereopods 3–5 and by its colouration (the greater number of white spots on carapace and their presence on the abdomen).
