Extremely heavy floods and their control in the Taihu Lake region

Abstract

Based on field investigations and relevant literature, this paper expounds on the cause of the extremely heavy floods in the Taihu Lake region in 1991, compares the flood-hit areas of 1954 with those of 1991, summarizes the experience on flood control and presents some useful proposals.
