Conclusions

The experimental data on arrival time spectra and the charged-to-neutral ratio for hadrons associated with air showers conclusively show that nucleon-antinucleon pairs are produced in abundance (~14%) in high-energy hadron interactions (> 1012 eV). Since machine results even at 70 GeV indicate production of only about 1% of nucleon-antinucleon pairs among secondaries, it follows that there must be a rapid increase in the production cross-section with energy between (1011÷1012) eV. The time structure studies of hadrons in air showers lead to interesting guesses on the probable phenomenological picture of high-energy hadrons collisions.
