Abstract

We discuss the role of exchange forces between paramagnetic centers in the bulk and on dislocationsd as a determinant of the plastic properties of diamagnetic crystals. It is shown that the movement of individual dislocations may be used as a measure of the intensity of mechanically active radical chemical reactions with a sensitivity to changes in the spin state at the level of one hundred atoms.
