Abstract
An analysis of fishery reports and the observations of scuba divers permanently employed in fishing for the Far Eastern sea cucumber (trepang) shows that fishing forA. japonicus in Amurskii and Pos'et bays over the last seven years has resulted in catches of 122 to 373 t/year. The price for trepang has steadily risen over these seven years, from $2 US in 1992 to $5 in 1999; the money turnover in the area of criminal trepang fishing has ranged between $244000 to $1492000. The fraction of trepang obtained in southern Primorye constitutes about 0.35% of the global catch of holothurians.
