AUTHOR’S NOTE: The author studied with Professor Williams at the New School for Social Research in 1988–89, and was the last student to do a Ph.D. field in Race and Class there under her supervision. Despite the subtitle, this paper is neither a comprehensive overview nor an in-depth study of Williams’ work.
