Abstract

Changes in height of green mixes tamped into a cup were measured during baking starting at room temperature. The greatest dimensional change was usually below 400°. The final change in height increased with pressure and temperature of tamping. The temperature at which contraction began increased with pitch softening point. Aggregate sizing had a noticeable effect. Commercial graphite cements contracted sharply.
