Summary

Results of investigations of marine clays, lagoon-marine clayey silts and glacial clay soils, forming the foundations of a number of hydraulic structures, are presented. Description of engineering-geological properties of clay soils and some recommendations on the study of these properties are given. Results of many years of investigations of actual settlements of structures and of deconsolidation of soils in construction pits are analysed.

Résumé

Les auteurs présentent les résultats de l’étude d’argiles marines, de silts argileux lagunaires et marins, et de sols argileux glaciaires: ces formations constituent le soubassement de nombreux ouvrages hydrauliques. Ils décrivent les propriétés géotechniques des sols argileux et en déduisent quelques recommandations. Ils analysent les résultats de plusieurs années de recherches sur les dommages causés aux constructions par des tassements de structures ou par la déconsolidation des sols.
