Conclusion

This review is far from comprehensive but provides a brief glimpse into the personality of William Osier, rather than just a biographical sketch of names and dates, in hopes that Osier becomes more than just an eponym for endocarditis or telangiectasias. He was a “medical man for all seasons” whose counsels and ideals remain timely. Despite the crush of administrative details and the push of technology, Osier’s example will help all physicians serve society and preserve the profession.
