Resistance to polishing of roadmaking aggregates from Bulgaria

Abstract

The polishing and the other mechanical properties of the main roadmaking aggregates used in Bulgaria were tested according to BS 812–75 and the Bulgarian Specifications. An analysis has made of the polishing process of the types of stones studied. There is a correlation between PSV and the other properties. By using electron microscopic analysis some tendencies of the polishing process have been studied. Placed in parallel into a heavily trafficked road, specimens of aggregates and little sections of asphalt concrete were used for studying the polishing under road conditions. A series of measurements on experimental sections were also made and some correlations between the values measured have been obtained. Recommended requirements for the PSV of roadmaking aggregates are proposed.

Resistance au polissage des granulats en Bulgarie

Résumé

On a réalisé des études de polissage accéléré et des autres propriétés mécaniques des granulats utilisés dans la construction routière. On a fait une analyse du processus de polissage des matériaux étudiés. Une relation entre CPA et propriétés mécaniques a été trouvée. On a utilisé la microscopie électronique pour l'étude de la surface polie. En utilisant des échantillons de granulats et des morceaux de béton bitumineux, incorporés dans le revêtement d'un tronçon routier à circulation intense, on a étudié le processus de polissage sur la route. On a accompli aussi des mesures sur les revêtements rugueux et des relations entre les valeurs obtenues ont été établies. On recommandé des valeurs du coefficient de polissage accélééré pour des conditions d'exploitations différentes des chaussées.
