Summary
The computer is instrumental in both the creation and the use of the geotechnical maps made at the University of Liège.
The SYSFAP integrated system developed by the CFPOC takes in charge the storing and processing of data to end up with the automatic drawing of the geotechnical maps. Moreover it provides an easy access to the stored, information and facilitates a regular updating of the maps.
The main stored data are.
-
- the coordinates of the concerned location
-
- the nature of the test
-
- the level of the ceiling of the different layers.
Thin information is enough for determining the functions representing the limits between the successive layers and the “isopaque” curves for each layer. In a near future the test results will also be processed in order to identify each layer.
After the generation of several maps, it appears that each one is a particular case. According to the density of information and the nature of the geological situations, it is necessary to adapt the parameters involved in the interpolation functions or even to develop particular functions.
Our paper describes: (a) the application of the SYSFAP system to the generation of geotechnical maps (especially the determination of interpolation functions); (b) the advantages the user of the maps may expect from the use of the computer.
