The international sun-earth explorer mission

Summary

The aim of the ISEE mission is described with emphasis on the novel features which are likely to make it significant in the understanding of magnetospheric physics. The role of the 3 spacecraft is explained. The design philosophy of the spacecraft themselves is presented briefly, followed by a description of the payload instruments sufficient for full appreciation of the ISEE papers presented. Details of the in-flight performance of the spacecraft are given and particular problems found in the mission are touched upon with the solutions (where these were found). A description of the approach to data analysis is given, in particular the way in which it is intended that ISEE will be integrated into IMS. Some of the achievements of the mission to date are explained and the plans for the future programme of this three-year mission are described.

Si descrive lo scopo della missione degli ISEE ponendo in evidenza i nuovi aspetti che probabilmente la rendono significativa nella comprensione della fisica magnetosferica. Si spiega il ruolo dei 3 satelliti. Si presenta brevemente la filosofia schematica dei satelliti stessi, seguita da una descrizione degli strumenti di bordo sufficienti per apprezzare pienamente i lavori degli ISEE presentati. Si descrivono i dettagli dell'azione in volo dei satelliti e si accennano particolari problemi della missione, con le soluzioni (dove queste sono state trovate). Si dà una descrizione dell'approccio all'analisi dei dati, in particolare il modo in cui si intende che l'ISEE sarà integrato nell'IMS. Si spiegano alcuni risultati della missione ad oggi e si descrivono i piani per i futuri programmi di questa missione triennale.

Описывается цель международных исследований по программе «Солнце-Земля». Отмечаются новые особенности, которые, возможно, позволят сделать существенный щаг в понимании физики магнитосферы. Обсуждается роль 3 космических аппаратов. Вкратце излагается философия конструкции самих космических аппаратов, с последующим описанием полезной аппаратуры, достаточной для полного выполнения программы международных исследований «Солнце-Земля». Приводятся детали научной программы в полете и специальные проблемы, возникшие в процессе выполнения, а также пути их решения (где это было возможно). Проводится анализ полученных данных, в частности, способ, предназначенный для интеграции ISEE в IMS. Отмечаутся некоторые достижения, полученные при выполнении программы, и описываются планы будущей программы на ближайщие три года.
