Gravitational and geomagnetic tidal source of earthquake triggering

Summary

Earth's tides and external geomagnetic fields are shown to be significantly related to large earthquake. A possible triggering mechanism is proposed to explain the large solar and lunar variations observed in the number of the examined shocks.

Riassunto

Vengono evidenziate significative correlazioni tra le componenti mareali (gravitazionali e geomagnetiche) e la frequenza dei terremoti superficiali di massima intensità. L'attività sismica a scala locale e planetaria presenta una ampia e significativa variazione correlata all'attività solare. Un possibile meccanismo di triggering viene proposto per spiegare le cospicue variazioni nel numero dei terremoti superficiali di massima intensità correlate a quelle delle forze esterne gravitazionali e geomagnetiche.

Резюме

Показывается, что жемные приливы и внешние геомагнитные поля существенно связаны с большими землетрясениями. Предлагается возможнный триггерный механизм для обьяснения больших солнечных и лунных вариаций, наблюденных в ряде исследованных толчков.
