The idealization of scaffold couplers for performance tests and scaffold analysis

Abstract

A scaffold coupler may be regarded as a short rigid member having multiple elastic connections at both or at one of its ends. The elastic properties need to be determined experimentally; suitable tests are described. Results are used for establishing matrices for unsymmetrical and symmetrical right angle couplers and for symmetrical swivel couplers. An example is given of the use of scaffold coupler matrices in calculations for the elastic instability strength of a three-storey scaffold tower.
