Unit activity from peripheral nerve bundles utilizing correlation techniques

Abstract

Recording the extracellular neuroelectric activity at several sites along a nerve trunk provides information on single unit action potential shape and conduction velocity. Several correlation techniques are examined for separating the multi-unit neuroelectric activity into the activity of single nerve fibres. An instrument is described that simultaneously separates multi-unit recordings, made at two sites along a nerve trunk, into single unit activity.

L'enregistrement de l'activité neuroélectrique extracellulaire à différents points au long d'une artère nerveuse fournit des renseignements sur la forme de potentiel d'action d'une simple unité et sur la vélocité de conduction. Plusieurs techniques de corrélation sont examinées pour séparer l'activité neuroélectrique multi-unitaire en activité de fibres nerveuses simples. On décrit un instrument qui sépare simultanément des enregistrements multi-unitaires pris à deux endroits au long d'une artère nerveuse simple.

Zusammenfassung

Registrierung extrazellularer neuroelektrischer Aktivität an verschiedenen Stellen entlang einem Nervenstrang ergibt Information über Potentialform der Handlung und über Leifähigkeitsgeschwindigkeit einer einzigen Einheit. Es werden mehrere Korrelations-techniken zur Trennung der neuroelektrischen Aktivität der Multi-Einheit in die Aktivitäten einzelner Nervenfasern untersucht. Es wird ein Apparat beschrieben, der gleichzeitig Multi-Einheit Aufschreibungen, die an zwei Stellen entlang einem Nervenstrang gemacht werden, in Aktivität einer einzelnen Einheit trennt.
