Abstract

For relating troop size (N) and home range area (R), a simple model,QRN, whereQ denotes habitat quality and α is a constant, was examined using published field data forMacaca fuscata, M. mulatta andColobus guereza. In particular, theN-R direct proportionality of the model was tested for its validity and usefulness in comparison with a few less simple models. The implications of the present model are discussed in relation to bioenergetics and population dynamics.
