High-performance liquid chromatography of metal ions on a bonded stationary phase

High performance liquid chromatography was used to separate Cu2+, Ni2+, and Zn2+ ions. A column packed with a β-diketone bonded phase on silica gel and a mobile phase composed of trifluoroacetylacetone in acetone was used for the separation. After post-column reaction with a color-forming reagent, the metals were detected by absorption in the visible region.
