Susceptibility of ticks to acaricides in Zambia

Summary

The susceptibility of some Zambian ticks to dieldrin, dioxathion, dimethoate and chlorfenvinphos was determined on two- to three-week-old larvae ofAmblyomma variegatum, Boophilus decoloratus, B. microplus, Rhipicephalus appendiculatus, R. e. evertsi and a member of theR. pravus group. Some strains ofB. decoloratus andR. appendiculatus were resistant to dieldrin, dioxathion and dimethoate and someR. e. evertsi were resistant to dieldrin and dioxathion. A single strain of anR. pravus group tick was resistant to dioxathion and one out of four strains ofA. variegatum was resistant to dieldrin.

Résumé

La sensibilité de quelques tiques de Zambie à la dieldrine, au dioxathion, au dimethoate et au chlorfenvinphos a été déterminée à l'aide de larves de 2 à 3 semaines des espècesAmblyomma variegatum, Boophilus decoloratus, B. microplus, Rhipicephalus appendiculatus, R. e. evertsi et un membre du groupeR. pravus. Quelques souches deB. decoloratum etR. appendiculatus étaient résistantes à la dieldrine, deoxathion et dimethoate et quelques unes deR. e. evertsi l'étaient à la dieldrine et au deoxathion. Une seule souche d'une tique du groupeR. pravus était résistante au dioxathion et une souche deA. variegatum sur quatre l'était à la dieldrine.

Resumen

Se determinó la susceptibilidad de algunas garrapatas encontradas en Zambia, a acaricidas tales como: dieldrin, dioxathion, dimethoate y chlorfenvinphos. El ensayo se realizo con larvas de dos a tres semanas deAmblyomma variegatum, Boophilus decoloratus, B. microplus, Rhipicephalus appendiculatus, R. e. evertsi, incluyendo a un miembro del grupoR. pravus Algunas cepas deBoophilus decoloratus yR. appendiculatus fueron resistentes al dieldrin, dioxathion y dimethoate, y algunasR. e. evertsi fueron resistentes al dieldrin y dioxathion. La cepa del grupoR. pravus fue resistente al dioxathion, y una de cade cuatro cepas deA. variegatum fué resistente al dieldrin.
