The role of gastrin in gastroileocolic responses

Gastrin II and the gastrin-like pentapeptide, ICI 50,123, increase the segmenting motility of the distal colon when administered in doses which are probably physiologic.

The effect of Gastrin II and the pentapeptide on the small intestine is less definite.

It is suggested that gastrin, the antral hormone, plays a part in the mediation of the gastrocolic responses.
