On the characterisation of the polymorphs of tolbutamide

Abstract

Two polymorphs of tolbutamide have been crystallised from a variety of solvents and studied by differential scanning calorimetry, optical and X-ray crystallography, and infra-red and Raman spectroscopy. The cell dimensions and space groups of the two forms have been obtained and the effect of repeated heating and cooling on the structures of the two polymorphs has been determined.
