Summary

In this article four recently published books are reviewed which all deal with problems of monopolistic competition and oligopoly. Two of them are written in Dutch: Booy's thesisPrice Reactions and Oligopoly and Rutten's thesisPrice Formation in Manufacturing Industry. The Dutch author Hilhorst wrote his bookMonopolistic Competition, Technical Progress and Income Distribution in English. The book by Krüsselberg,Organisations Theory, Theory of the Firm and Oligopoly is written in German. The titles of the books already indicate that oligopolistic market situations are discussed from different points of view. Some of the books underline theoretical aspects; others pay more attention to empirical matters, while the behavioural approach to the theory of the firm is also discussed. After a comparison of the four books has been made, the last part of the present article containe some suggestions for further research in the field of oligopoly theory.
